Fishing in Bequia

Fishing in Bequia

Bequia has a long tradition of whaling and boat building. Natives of Bequia are allowed to catch up to two humpback whales per year using only traditional hunting methods of hand-thrown harpoons in small open sailing boats. They rarely catch their limit and some years do not catch any. Visitors to the island must content themselves with fishing for tuna, blue marlin ( a local fisherman caught a 400lb Blue Marlin after a 4-hour fight from a 10ft fishing boat with as tackle a 40lb test line, plastic lure, no fishing rod or reel!), kingfish, barracuda sailfish, spearfish, wahoo, dorado.
